Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of BE Bliss! What inspired its creation? Belinda Babbage: I was a yogi before I found Ayurveda in 2001, so my approach to it came from Yoga, and what a yogi pursues: Bliss. Ever since, I integrated these 2 bodies of deep wisdom - in my life and in my practice - and discovered that Ayurveda not only amplifies the profound changes brought about by Yoga, but is essential for integrity in this practice. It just knows the body and mind on a deeper level than Yoga, so you can use this tool more effectively to bring about the changes you want, without sabotaging yourself: health, happiness, enlightenment = Bliss! So the whole concept of integrity and BEing what you practice, combined with this ultimate path to Bliss, inspired the creation of BE Bliss.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in Vancouver, what are some of your proudest moments? Belinda Babbage: One of the best moments for me was actually when no one knew I existed yet - a reporter from a local South Asian newspaper interviewed me about the safety of Ayurvedic herbs and preparations. It was completely random that she chose me, but it was such an important opportunity to dispel a lot of ignorance about what Ayurveda was. I evolved from a background in Western science (10 years and 2 degrees) to embracing Ayurveda (and Yoga) in part because of all the science that backed it up - and they knew all this more than 5000 years ago! Apart from that specific memory, I have a best moment every time I give a consultation and blow someone's mind, which always happens.
Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Belinda Babbage: Ayurveda has a quiet, but relentless way of spreading into the collective consciousness. I've been seeing a burst of interest in Ayurveda over the last year or so, and as more people get tired of being overwhelmed by too much information and too many options regarding nutrition, supplements and treatment modalities, I see them coming around to Ayurveda. Its the most holistic medicine on the Planet, so it's able to consolidate all this knowledge and information and effectively customize the foods and lifestyle changes that are needed for each person to achieve true and lasting wellness... and Bliss. Each of us is unique, so it follows that unless tools and treatments are customized to the individual, they will either be ineffective (which is a big waste of energy, good intentions and money) or even damaging to their health.
