BODIESYNERGY Fitness

"As a fitness community we come together investing in one another, the energy and trust is reciprocal. I am proud of the progress, goals and achievements we continue to make ..."

Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of BODIESYNERGY! What inspired its creation? Joanna Paterson: BODIESYNERGY Fitness was created (2010); during a time of personal and professional adversity; being a recently divorced immigrant, single mother (without family in the USA), I moved to Brooklyn with a fierce determination to reinvent myself. My goal was to create a business with a community to achieve a healthier work/life balance. I believed there had to be a better way than my then corporate job, a 90 minute commute and babysitter for my daughter. With BODIESYNERGY Fitness we have moved in the right direction by giving clients the opportunity to escape the pressures of the urban jungle,to be fit healthy and active outside all year round (spring summer fall and winter). We design training sessions, group workouts and;fitness events (on the move); maximizing the geography of any outdoor urban space We promote organic fitness using no equipment (with the exception of Kettlebell Training). Leaving the space without a trace of being there. We start our day watching the sunrise as we challenge our bodies running 300 stairs or bear crawling downhill or cartwheeling until we are dizzy, we finish our day watching the sun set as we get our miles in running the Prospect Park loop. It's an incredible way to embrace each day.

Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in Brooklyn, what are some of your proudest moments? Joanna Paterson: I am proud of building and developing an independent, authentic and unique outdoor urban fitness brand, that goes way beyond just myself. As a fitness community we come together investing in one another, the energy and trust is receptacle. I am proud of the progress, goals and achievements we continue to make each day. I have am extreme amount of pride in leading by example for my daughter as her mother, a kiwi woman (New Zealander), an immigrant, a business woman.

Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Joanna Paterson: One aspect of the fitness industry which is exciting right now is the promotion of "positive body image". A subject close to my heart, after loosing 130+ lbs I am still considered on the heavy side for my profession. I work on building positive mind/body image every day to present a confident strong person whilst wearing Lycra in outdoor urban spaces. Professional Partnerships create a win-win synergy. In team work we get to promote one another and enhance our client experience  Summer Sundays: a series of urban outdoor fitness events. We partner with local Yoga teachers, and other businesses to support and promote the local business community. Personally I always look to enrich our suit of client services. This year I am excited to be certifying as a Health Coach and will be launching our Health Coaching Service in 2018.  [ learn more ]
