Charlene Lite Yoga
"I love how I'm in the business of making people feel good. I really am someone who loves to create: either it's a workshop, a retreat, a song, a book, whatever it may be, I am so inspired to take my ideas into action ..."
Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of your practice! What inspired its creation? Charlene Lite: Years ago, when I was living in LA, a good friend brought me to a yoga class. Like most newbies, I was intimidated by the room, the teacher and the fact that it was going to be 90-minutes! But, afterwards, I felt a release and calmness that I was never able to achieve in any other "fitness" class. I also loved what the teacher spoke about. I was searching for something much deeper than a physical practice. I was unhappy at my full-time office job, pursing a music career on my off hours... And trying to grapple with living a life I loved everyday. That was about thirteen years ago. The yoga community has changed and grown so vastly since then. But, I still come to the mat with the same curiosity, thirst for knowledge, community and authentic connection. I had no idea that introduction would change the trajectory of my life.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in New York, what are some of your proudest moments? Charlene Lite: Oh so many! But some that stick out are: as I walk around the city, students stopping me on the streets shouting, "OMG -- CHARLENE, I LOVE your yoga class!" To four years ago, when I started my own monthly themed-workshops, thirty people signed up to my very first one! It was then I introduced my other passion, singing and playing my music live music at the end in savasana! To my most recent yoga retreat to Guatemala. Fourteen strangers who knew no one but me, signed up for a week-long trip. And everyone got along beautifully. We even had a Talent Night - where everyone shared some "talent" that they had, from singing, to reciting poetry, original essays, teaching martial arts to the group to creating a theme-song (courtesy of me ;-) I also love students who make friends at my workshops/retreats. That's the best feeling.
Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Charlene Lite: I love how I'm in the business of making people feel good. I really am someone who loves to create: either it's a workshop, a retreat, a song, a book, whatever it may be, I am so inspired to take my ideas into action. I think more live music along with fitness-related classes is something you'll see more of. I think people have become so spiritually aware that you can really turn any traditional fitness class into something more inspirational. I am a student first and foremost so I am always running from this class to that class with that same curiosity that I had when I first stepped on a yoga mat. And I've learned...
