iDance Vancouver

"What would I do without the amazing people that make iDance what it is! Sure, there may be a few large successes thus far. However, it honestly has been the small things that are truly impactful and make us jump leaps and bounds, growing our community ..."

Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of iDance! What inspired its creation? Amanda Hemmaway: WOW. Well thank you so very much for featuring iDance Vancouver on your amazing site.....and I must say - congrats to you as well, your site and content is fabulous! The journey and growth of what iDance has become is amazing! It started out with the need and want to share a passion. Dance! To allow everyone, no matter who you may be, to feel safe, confident and inspired in a space. Dancing - and not in your kitchen - makes people vulnerable - which can be ridiculously intimidating. This is the foundation of our creation, removing that fear. Removing the intimidation factor. I started dancing when I was fairly young, and it has stuck with me. Dance has always been my safe haven, a place of no judgement.  However, at 17 I attended a program that - really made me fall out of love with dance - due to that fear of not dancing for the love of it. It drained the passion and made me really realise that this art form was meant and should be accessible and shared with everyone. It should create and instil - joy.

Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in Vancouver, what are some of your proudest moments? Amanda Hemmaway: What would I do without the amazing people that make iDance what it is! Sure, there may be a few large successes thus far. However, it honestly has been the small things that are truly impactful and make us jump leaps and bounds, growing us as a community. It is the person who comes to the studio because they have had a not-so-great day, and then leave with a smile. It is the 40 year old who always wanted to be a ballerina, who now has the courage and opportunity to take that ballet class. It is seeing that person who felt the need and curiosity to want to move, and go for it...and fall so deeply in love with dance! These moments are my proudest, the moments that make me fall in love even more with what I do, that make me proud to own iDance Vancouver.

Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Amanda Hemmaway: You are right, the wellness field is always evolving - as it should - it is a trendy thing. However, I like the call the studio - classically trendy. And that is what makes us unique, we will always offer those amazing heartfelt classes like - ballet, hip hop and jazz….just to name a few. Things that will never go out of style, genres that people continue to fall in love with over and over again. But, we do always have something fun coming up, like our Feature Friday classes (new classes, guest instructors, random things) or our Beyonce Ballet class is new to the studio - I mean Beyonce music with Ballet only equals perfection. We also have some amazing new instructors joining the studio, and a few awesome new classes being added to the schedule. And on a side note, iDance Vancouver is looking at expanding into to a new home! Something that we have all been eagerly awaiting.  [ learn more ]
