What Was Louis C.K. Trying to Do With That SNL Monologue?
It's been nearly two years since Louis C.K. hosted Saturday Night Live. This weekend the comedian joined Paul Simon in the Four Timers Club. He returned to the stage having wrapped up his own TV experiment, Horace and Pete, and in support of his new Netflix stand-up special. But his monologue last night was mostly about animals. He talked about giraffes. He joked about moose. There was very little social or political awareness that he's shown in interviews leading up to the Netflix special. He seemed nervous, aimless. Where was the passion of Dave Chappelle's opening monologue? Where were the Trump analogies? Why was Louis C.K. using one of the most visible stages for any performer to talk about motels and his own white guilt? C.K. will almost certainly host SNL again. And maybe next time he'll have something to say. [ learn more ]
